Drunken Logic – Indie Brew – Featured Artist

If you haven’t heard of Drunken Logic you are missing out. Period.

Here is generally where I go into what type of genre you can fit a band into, or what type of music that they play; listing multiple genres if they are some sort of blend. To be perfectly honest though, if I were to try to list every genre of music that Drunken Logic fits into; or every type of music you hear in one amazing fusion; I would be writing for days. While bullet point lists are amazing for some things; I’m just not that into them. Don’t worry you’ll get a bullet point of band members, and maybe one with links. I’m not a total sadist.

Drunken Logic is the Indie Brew featured artist because they are fun to listen to. You will want to get up and dance, there is no question about that. Oh, and you’re welcome for your new favorite band.

Drunken Logic is comprised of

  • Jake Cassman – keys, lead vocals
  • Austin Wells – electric guitar, vocals
  • Ryan Jordan – acoustic/electric guitar, keys, mandolin, vocals
  • Alex Trevino – bass guitar, vocals
  • Alex McGillivray – drums, vocals

Be sure to check out Drunken Logic at all of the following links, and listen to their song ‘(The Good News Is) Nobody Gives A Damn’ which is my personal favorite. Unfortunately I do not have a video of that handy, so you’ll have to make due with soundcloud to give that one a listen.

Kristen Graves
_summer_promo_shot

Kristen Graves is a Folk/Pop/Indie artist and activist hailing from Fairfield, Connecticut.  Her lyrics are catchy, fun, and above all else contain a message.

Kristens_guitar_as_drum_3__monochrome

With an angelic voice Kristen sings songs of hope, and love; but also songs calling for political change. She spends 3 months of the year volunteering with Simply Smiles, a Connecticut-based charity run by her husband, Bryan Nurnberger.  Kristen is also the current State Troubadour of Connecticut which means that along with touring, and doing charity work; she also functions as an ambassador of music and song to encourage cultural literacy and promote the State of Connecticut.

“During my time as the State Troubadour, I want to take the opportunity to encourage artists of all ages to not only make great art, but take things a step further outside of themselves and use that art to inspire change. When we all do our part to use our talents and make the world a better place, beautiful things happen.”

In 2012, frustrated with the hatred spewing forth from all parties during the elections Kristen jokingly started her own ‘Political’ Party. The Just Be Nice party may have started out as a joke mentioned at gigs, but it quickly blossomed from there.  People started asking about the Just Be Nice party, and how they could join. As a result, thejustbeniceparty.com was born; and you can go to the website to check out a list of various non-profit charities  that take on a variety of social issues. Now that’s a party that I can back.

Low Music Sales Simply Due To Bad Music?

Are Low Music Sales Simply Due To Bad Music? – hypebot.

That’s been my guess for A LONG time. A LOT of bad music, empty of innovation and creative spark, filled with studio enhancement tricks to make talentless singers sound adequate, being shoved down our throats by the major labels, who then turn around and blame the bands and their fans for the piracy that is OBVIOUSLY killing music sales…

How about this…Indie Artists are producing and publishing volumes of great music everyday, and people are spending their consumer dollars ELSEWHERE. Yes, that’s right Sony, people are choosing to buy REAL MUSIC directly from REAL MUSICIANS and artist friendly music services, and it’s cutting into your sales and profits.

Like they say on Shark Tank…if you’re selling a crappy product, your sales are going to suck. OK, they don’t actually say that, but tell me it isn’t true?

Maybe if the record labels stop exploiting artists and fans, and start finding new, innovative, and inspired acts that are creating new and imaginative art, they can get back on track. Or, they can keep doing what they’re doing…exploiting crap for profit while shunning any semblance of true inspiration, and carving thier niche in history with the dinosaurs and 8 track tape decks in the car.

Anyhoo, check out the article that I sorta read before going off on this rant. Are Low Music Sales Simply Due To Bad Music?

6 Train Soldier- Featured Artist

6 Train Soldier is a Rock/R&B/Funk band out of Bristol, CT.  Relatively new to the scene, 6 Train Soldier will quickly catch your attention with funky bass lines, near Hendrix like guitar, smooth vocals, and a sound quality one would expect from a band that has been playing together for many more years.

A Chat With Jack Conte, Musician And Entrepreneur | TechCrunch

A Chat With Jack Conte, Musician And Entrepreneur | TechCrunch.

“Jack Conte is a busy guy. He and his partner, Nataly Dawn, are on tour with Pomplamoose, a band that rivals only OK Go in their dedication to weird and wacky video production and Conte is also co-founder of Patreon, a way to pay artists for their work. This interview, part of our back to school series, is aimed at getting to the bottom of what it means to be a musician in the Internet age and what it takes to be creative in the face of indifference. Conte took a moment out of his touring schedule to offer a few great points for budding online artists.”

The Rise Of Indie Streaming – hypebot

By Peter Getty.

Streaming music is a music lover’s dream. We now have access to the work of a wide range of artists, either for free (with ads) or for a small monthly fee. Popular artists are even making money on the model, with heavy rotation with services like Pandora, Beats, and Spotify. For smaller artists, however, the results aren’t always great.

For better or worse, a future where most music is available for streaming looks unavoidable. Recognizing this, independent record labels and their artists are finding ways to ride the wave on their own terms.

Sub Pop Records, the good people who released the albums of Nirvana (and for you Millennials, The Shins), just announced a partnership with streaming service Drip.fm. For $10/month, users can listen to a Sub Pop ‘feed’ featuring the label’s albums, singles, and exclusive tracks.

Sub Pop may be the biggest indie label trying to connect with their fans in this way, but they’re not the only one. Jagjaguwar, Secretly Canadian, and Fool’s Gold have made similar deals with Drip.fm. The argument goes that not only are artists going to better compensated with this model, but that labels will actually be able to use it to forge a stronger bond with their community.

Brand loyalty is very real in the world of independent music, with a tight-knit group of serious fans looking for ways to connect. Sub Pop was able to promote their brand via mix tapes and CDs in the 90′s, and are looking for the next generation of the model. People don’t want to connect with an algorithm, they want to connect to artists and each other.

With digital sales declining year to year as streaming services become more prevalent, even a small fan base willing to pay labels directly are being seen as a lifeline. How else could emerging or niche artists ever hope to make a living? A single stream of a song only brings a fraction of a cent to the artist.

A collection of independent artists created a service called Other People. In this model, users pay $5/month for a subscription that includes a weekly offering of songs. While not a major money-maker like Spotify, the project began paying for itself almost immediately.

While major streaming services still have something to offer to indie labels, like a way to get their music in the hands of anyone around the world, it presents a very real problem. We can expect to see more imaginative and cooperative concepts from indie labels in the near future.

Live At Indie Brew- Jamie Gray And The Brew

Recorded Live At Indie Brew Studios- Jamie Gray And The Brew

This version of Jamie’s original song “90 mph blues” was recorded 7/19/2014 during the 6th annual Artists 4 Life Benefit to support the Children’s Cancer Association’s MusicRx broadcast.

Jamie’s set was over an hour long, and featured a 20 minute solo acoustic opening. This song came a couple songs into the electric portion of the show, featuring the 3 piece band: Jamie playing a vintage 70s Ibanez Musician electric guitar, along Chris Schmidt on Drums and Mr. Butch on bass and backing vocals.

“This was our first time really playing this song together…and you can tell. There’s some rough edges…mostly timing stuff. But there’s also a way cool bass solo that we squeezed out of Butch and a few cool sounds flew out of the old Ibanez as well. She’s been spending way too much time in her case up to now…I think you’ll be seeing more of her soon” ~jg

You can find out more about Jamie and find more of Jamie’s music on his website JamieGrayMusic.Com, Reverbnation, SoundCloud, or Youtube

Muzooka is a music startup you should know

I stumbled upon this article, and I was truly amazed that I’ve never heard of Muzooka before…and it took about 10 seconds to decide to sign up. Muzooka is a music startup you should know about. If you’re an Indie artist, a music producer or just a music fan, this site has something to offer.

After only a couple minutes of poking around and listening to a few of the artists, I was hooked. The fluid UI makes the site easy to use and the scope of talent from all genres is a huge “attract”. I’m not sure what they need the $3 million for, but I bet it makes the service even better.

And who knows how many new Indie Artists we may ‘discover’ to play on IndieBrew…Everybody wins!

Check out the article below, and kick on over to Muzooka.com to check it out.
