Alice in Chains Detail ‘Rainier Fog’ Inspired Film Project
As originally published by Sarah Murphy on Exclaim!

Alice in Chains released Rainier Fog earlier this year, and now the long-running alt-rock outfit has revealed plans for a companion film.

Titled Black Antenna, the movie was produced and directed by Adam Mason. It’s a sci-fi film that was inspired by the ten songs on the record, and will be released episodically over ten instalments beginning next year. Each clip is set to a different song from the album.

“We’ve always toyed with the idea of creating videos for every song on one of our albums,” drummer Sean Kinney said in a statement. “Not only did we do that for Rainier Fog, it got totally out of hand and we made a whole goddamn movie. Everything that will be seen in the videos will be footage from Black Antenna to preface the complete film’s release.”

Check out a preview for Black Antenna below.

Rainier Fog was released in August and marked the band’s first studio album in five years. It has since been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Rock Album category.

Radiohead, the Cure, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks Named 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

rockhall.jpg

As originally published by Sarah Murphy on Exclaim!

The list of 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees has been announced. This years honourees are Radiohead, the Cure, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music, the Zombies and the fan-voted Def Leppard.

Radiohead, the Cure, Jackson and the Zombies had each been nominated prior to this year. It was, however, the first nomination for Nicks, Roxy Music and Def Leppard.

Technically, Nicks was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Fleetwood Mac, but she will now be honoured for her solo career that began in 1981.

Radiohead, meanwhile, previously expressed their apathy towards the pomp and circumstance of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Upon being nominated last year, Jonny Greenwood said “I don’t care,” while drummer Phil Selway compared it to “having the free bus pass in the UK when you reach a certain age” and guitarist Ed O’Brien said, “It seems very show-biz and I’m not very show-biz.” Frontman Thom Yorke politely refrained from commenting as to not “put my foot in my mouth.”

Amongst the nominees that will not be inducted this time around are Rage Against the Machine, MC5, Kraftwerk, Rufus & Chaka Khan, LL Cool J, Devo, Todd Rundgren and John Prine.

The induction ceremony will take place on March 29 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. HBO and SiriusXM will broadcast the event.

The 51 Best Albums of 2018

best-albums-of-2018-spin-1544650582-160x

Across publications, tastemakers, even members of our own staff, there was little consensus about who made the best music of 2018. Reliable superstars were either M.I.A. or working through fallow periods: no new Kendrick or Frank, Beyoncé limited to an album of unmemorable duets, Kanye holed up in Wyoming making duds (and Daytona). Miley Cyrus Confirms She’s in ‘Black Mirror’ Season 5

miley_3.jpg

As originally published by Brock Thiessen on Exclaim!

Following weeks of rumours, Miley Cyrus has finally confirmed she will be featured in the new season of Black Mirror.

Cyrus confirmed the rumours to Howard Stern this morning, telling the talk show host that she is indeed involved with the upcoming fifth season of Charlie Brooker‘s hit Netflix series.

“If you guess it, then I will shake my head ‘yes,'” Cyrus told Stern [via Billboard] when he asked about the Black Mirror rumours.

Stern then revealed Cyrus confirmed her Black Mirror role, though the singer/actress said she was not allowed to mention Black Mirror by name.

“I’m really actually excited for everyone to watch the ‘headshaking project’ we said yes to [before],” she told Stern cryptically. “The minute I say I never want to do something again, all of a sudden, there I am.”

She continued, “I hate everything, but it was the first time I’ve left somewhere feeling really proud of my work… but you know if I like it that might mean it’s horrible.”

Cyrus also promised she plays her Black Mirror role “with a lot of dynamic” and that there are a “lot of different sides” to her character.

“There’s a lot of dimension to it, and actually it was while the devastation of Malibu was happening, and it was a really weird learning experience for me, because I was so far from home and the show is already really dark, and it’s already kind of eerie when you’re there the whole time,” she said. “But I learned a lot about myself and I think I was able to kind of use that and put that into it.”

This isn’t the only Black Mirror rumour to spring up this month. As recently reported, a Netflix account tweeted a release date for what looks like a new episode of the show. It was listed as December 28, 2018, though Netflix has since deleted the post and still not confirmed any premiere date.

Earlier today, Netflix also announced its January schedule, and while there was still no sign of Black Mirror‘s return, we’re still holding on hope it may arrive in 2018.

As for Cyrus, she recently teamed up with Mark Ronson for his new single “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.” As previously reported, the pair will also be on Saturday Night Live on December 15, when they will be doing “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” live.
